Why this size
Visa photo sizes are not all the same
Schengen visas use the common 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport size, but many countries set their own. A Dubai (UAE) visa photo is 4.3 x 5.5 cm, Saudi Arabia asks for 4 x 6 cm, China for 3.3 x 4.8 cm with the head 28 to 33 mm tall, and the US for 2 x 2 inches, the same photo as a US passport.
Online forms add their own file rules. The US DS-160 form takes a square JPG from 600 x 600 to 1200 x 1200 pixels, no larger than 240 KB. Singapore's e-Services want exactly 400 x 514 pixels. Pick the visa and the tool sets the size, the pixels and the background, then keeps the file inside the limit.

Avoid
Common mistakes that get photos rejected
- Head too smallThe face should fill 70-80% of the height. Crop closer if there is a lot of wall above you.
- Shadows on the wallStand a step away from the wall and face a window so the light falls on you, not behind you.
- Wrong size for the countryA US 2 x 2 in photo is not valid for a 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport. Pick your country first.
- Glasses or a tilted headMost offices want no glasses and a straight, neutral face looking at the camera.
FAQ
Visa Photo: questions
- What is the Schengen visa photo size?
- 3.5 x 4.5 cm (35 x 45 mm) on a plain light background, with the head 32 to 36 mm tall from chin to crown. It is the same size as most passport photos.
- What is the Dubai visa photo size?
- 4.3 x 5.5 cm on a white background for UAE visas, including Dubai. Choose UAE (Dubai) in the list.
- What are the US visa photo size requirements?
- 2 x 2 inches on a white background. For the DS-160 form the file must be a square JPG between 600 x 600 and 1200 x 1200 pixels and no larger than 240 KB. The tool makes a 600 x 600 photo under 240 KB.
- What is the China visa photo size?
- 3.3 x 4.8 cm (33 x 48 mm) on a white background, with the head 28 to 33 mm tall.
- What is the Singapore visa photo size?
- 35 x 45 mm on a white background. For online applications through ICA's e-Services the photo must be 400 x 514 pixels, which the tool makes for you.
- What is the Vietnam visa photo size?
- 4 x 6 cm on a white background, looking straight at the camera, without glasses. The online visa form takes it as a JPG.
- Can I check my visa photo before I apply?
- For a US visa (the DS-160 form), an India e-Visa or OCI, yes: the free passport photo checker tests your photo against that office's rules. For other visas, use a sharp photo taken facing a window, with even light on both sides of your face, and follow the embassy's checklist.
- Is a visa photo the same as a passport photo?
- Often, but not always. Schengen visas use 3.5 x 4.5 cm like most passports, while the UAE, Saudi Arabia, China and Vietnam each set their own sizes.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. Every step runs in your browser.

How the tool works
A small face detection model (YuNet, about 230 KB) runs in your browser, finds your eyes and chin, and places the frame so the head fills the share of the height the country asks for. You can move the frame. The tool then crops to the country's shape, can replace the background with the on-device AI model, and resizes to the official size at 300 DPI. Where the country sets a file size range, it keeps the JPG inside it. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
