How to

How to convert JPG to PDF under 50 KB

  1. 1

    Add your pages

Photos or scans of each page, or a PDF you already have, in the order they should appear. About 1 scanned A4 page stays readable under 50 KB.

    Keep the 50 KB limit

It is already set. The tool builds the PDF, or compresses yours, until it is under 50 KB: about 25 KB a page for two pages, 10 KB for five.

    Download the PDF

Check the size shown, then upload it to your form.

Why this size

Why forms ask for a PDF under 50 KB

50 KB is the smallest PDF limit in common use, and it fits one page. A phone photo of a page is usually 2 to 4 MB, so it has to become 40 to 80 times smaller. That works for a typed or printed page cropped to the paper edge. A detailed color photo or small handwriting may not stay clear at 50 KB: if the form allows it, use under 100 KB, or send a single photo as a JPG with compress to 50 KB.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Crop to the paper

Table, floor and fingers around the page waste space. Cropping to the paper lets the text keep more detail.

Black and white for text

A page with only text and a signature is much smaller scanned in black and white than in color.

Fewer pages, sharper text

50 KB is shared by all pages. If a form allows separate uploads, one document per PDF looks better.

FAQ

JPG to PDF under 50 KB: questions

How do I convert a photo into a 50 KB PDF?
Add the photo, keep the 50 KB limit and download. The page is compressed on your device until the whole PDF is under 50 KB.
Can I fit two pages in 50 KB?
Sometimes, with two short typed pages cropped to the paper. Each page then has about 25 KB. For more pages, a larger limit such as 100 KB keeps them readable.
Does my form want a PDF or a JPG under 50 KB?
Read the upload field. If it says JPG, use compress image to 50 KB instead: a PDF field rejects a JPG even when the size is right, and the other way round.
How do I convert JPG to PDF under 50 KB?
Add your photos, keep the 50 KB limit and download. The PDF is built and compressed on your device until it fits.
How many pages fit in 50 KB?
About 1 A4 pages of scanned text stay comfortably readable. Photos with lots of detail need more space per page.
How do I compress a PDF to 50 KB?
Add the PDF here instead of photos and keep the 50 KB limit: the tool reduces the PDF size until it is under 50 KB. The photos inside are compressed first, so typed text stays text; only if that is not enough are the pages saved as images.
What if the PDF cannot get under 50 KB?
You will see the size it reached. Crop the photos to the page, add fewer pages, or use a larger limit if your form allows it.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. The PDF under 50 KB is built in your browser, so certificates, IDs and other private documents never leave your device.

How the tool works

Each image becomes one page of a PDF built in your browser, and a PDF you add keeps all its pages, in the order you add the files. With a size limit, the tool first compresses the photos inside the PDF, quality first and size second, while typed text, links and drawings stay as they are, so the text can still be selected. Only if that is not enough is each page drawn with pdf.js (Mozilla, Apache 2.0) and saved as an image, smaller pages before lower quality, until the whole file is under the limit. Nothing is uploaded. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
