How to

How to resize your PAN card photo and signature

  1. 01

    Choose the portal

NSDL (Protean) or UTIITSL. The two portals ask for different sizes, so pick the one you are applying on.

  2. 02

    Add your photo and signature

Frame your face in the photo. Photograph your signature on white paper; it is cleaned up and trimmed for you.

  3. 03

    Download both files

Each comes out at the exact size, DPI and KB the portal checks. Upload them on the application page.

Why this size

PAN card photo and signature size

NSDL (now Protean) and UTIITSL both issue PAN cards, but their upload rules differ. Protean wants a 3.5 x 2.5 cm colour photo at 200 DPI and a 2 x 4.5 cm signature, each up to 50 KB. UTIITSL wants a 213 x 213 pixel photo at 300 DPI under 30 KB and a 400 x 200 pixel signature at 600 DPI under 60 KB.

Forms reject files with the wrong DPI even when they look right, so this page writes the DPI into each file along with the size and KB.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Signature in black ink

UTIITSL asks for a black and white signature. Sign in black ink on plain white paper; the cleanup makes the paper pure white.

Documents go up as a PDF

Proof of identity, address and date of birth are uploaded separately as one PDF. Use the JPG to PDF tool to combine your scans under the portal's limit.

Check the portal before you submit

Portals can update their limits. The upload page always shows the current rule.

How we checked this page

Checked by the SizePort team on .

We compare every size and rule on this page with the official sources below, and test the tool with sample photos before it goes live. Rules and platforms change, so if something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

How the tool works

The kit sets each file to the exact pixel size the form gives, then searches for the JPG quality that lands it inside the KB range. If a small file is still under the minimum, it adds an empty comment block inside the JPG, which raises the size without changing the picture. It also writes the DPI the form asks for. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
