Why this size

Instagram sizes at a glance

Square posts show fully in the feed and the profile grid. Uploading the exact size means Instagram does not crop or re-compress your image in ways you did not choose.

The tool scales once, straight to 1080 x 1080, from your original pixels, so the result stays sharp. Start from a photo at least as large as 1080 x 1080: enlarging a small image cannot add detail. For a small old photo, the AI upscaler can redraw it larger first.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Start from the original photo

Use the photo from your camera or gallery, not a screenshot or a copy forwarded in a chat. Scaling down to 1080 x 1080 keeps it sharp; scaling up a small image makes it soft.

Uploads get compressed again

Most platforms, Instagram included, re-compress images after upload. A JPG at the exact size gives them the least to change, so colors and edges stay closer to your original.

Avoid

Common problems and fixes

  • Instagram cropped my photoResize with Fit to keep the whole photo inside the square, or crop it to 1:1 yourself first.
  • Text is cut off in the profile gridThe grid shows a slightly cropped preview. Keep text and faces away from the edges.
  • The image looks blurry after postingInstagram enlarges images that are smaller than its size, which makes them soft. Start from the original photo, at least as large as the size above.

FAQ

Instagram Post: questions

What is the Instagram post size?
1080 x 1080 pixels for a square post. Instagram also accepts portrait posts of 1080 x 1350 and landscape posts of 1080 x 566.
What are the Instagram post size dimensions in inches?
Instagram works in pixels, not inches. 1080 x 1080 px prints at 3.6 x 3.6 inches at 300 DPI.
How do I post a photo without Instagram cropping it?
Resize it to 1080 x 1080 here with Fit. The whole photo stays, with a border, and Instagram has nothing to crop.

Is my photo uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in your browser.
