How to

How to make a Dubai visa photo

  1. 1.

Add a recent colour photo. Taken lately, so it looks like you today, facing the camera in even light.

  2. 2.

Check the crop. The frame centres your head at about 70 to 80 percent of the height. Nudge it if your eyes sit off the line.

  3. 3.

Make the background pure white. The rule that matters most. One tap replaces the wall with plain white.

  4. 4.

Download. A JPG for the online form or your travel agent, or a print sheet of 4.3 x 5.5 cm photos.

Why this size

Dubai visa photo rules from GDRFA

Dubai visas are issued by GDRFA Dubai, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and visas for the other emirates by the federal authority ICP. GDRFA's service pages ask for a recent personal photo in colour with a white background. They do not publish one size in millimetres or pixels: if the form you use needs a particular pixel size, it shows it on the upload screen.

Typing centres, airlines and travel agents in the UAE and India mostly work with 4.3 x 5.5 cm (43 x 55 mm), a little larger than a passport photo, and that is the size this page makes. The layout follows the usual passport style: the head centred and filling most of the height, eyes open and looking at the camera, a neutral expression and no shadows.

The white background is the rule that gets photos sent back most often. A cream or light grey wall can look white to you and still be refused, so replace it with plain white here before you send the photo.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Follow the upload screen

If your travel agent or the form asks for a specific size in pixels or KB, download the photo and use the pixel resizer or the compressor to match it exactly.

Abu Dhabi and the other emirates

Visas for the other emirates come from ICP, the federal authority. Check the size on its upload screen or with your agent; a recent colour photo on plain white is the safe choice.

Print at actual size

Set the printer to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Otherwise the photo shrinks and no longer measures 4.3 x 5.5 cm.

Avoid

Why Dubai visa photos get sent back

  • An off white backgroundCream, grey or a shadowed wall is not white. Replace it with pure white here.
  • An old photoUse a recent photo that looks like you do now, not one from an old ID.
  • Black and white or a filterThe photo must be in colour, with no filter or beauty mode.
  • Glasses or a capYour face and eyes must be clearly visible. Remove anything that covers them.

FAQ

Dubai (UAE) Visa: questions

GDRFA Dubai asks for a recent colour photo on a white background and does not publish one size. Typing centres and travel agents commonly use 4.3 x 5.5 cm (43 x 55 mm), which this page makes.

Plain white, with no shadow or pattern. It is the rule photos fail most often.

Dubai visas come from GDRFA Dubai and visas for the other emirates from ICP. Both work with a recent colour photo on plain white; if a form shows a pixel size, use that.

508 x 650 pixels at 300 DPI, sharp enough to print or upload.

Use the size your agent or form gives. Make the photo here with the white background, then resize it to their pixels or KB with the pixel resizer or the compressor.

GDRFA does not publish a glasses rule. Take them off to be safe: your eyes must be clearly visible, with no glare or tint.

No. The white background and the resizing are done in your browser.

We compare every size and rule on this page with the official sources below, and test the tool with sample photos before it goes live. Rules and platforms change, so if something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

How the tool works

A small face detection model (YuNet, about 230 KB) runs in your browser, finds your eyes and chin, and places the frame so the head fills the share of the height the country asks for. You can move the frame. The tool then crops to the country's shape, can replace the background with the on-device AI model, and resizes to the official size at 300 DPI. Where the country sets a file size range, it keeps the JPG inside it. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
