Why this size

Resize image in inches: inches to pixels at 300 DPI

At 300 DPI, the print standard, each inch needs 300 pixels: a 4 x 6 inch print is 1200 x 1800 pixels and a 2 x 2 inch photo is 600 x 600. The tool converts your inches to pixels and writes 300 DPI into the file, so printers use the size you typed.

To find the size in inches of a photo you already have, divide its pixels by its DPI: a 3000 x 2000 pixel photo at 300 DPI prints at 10 x 6.67 inches. The common sizes have their own pages with the size already set: 4x6, 5x7, wallet size, US Letter, the 2 x 2 inch passport photo and the 3.37 x 2.13 inch ID card size.

How the tool works

The tool scales your image once, from the original pixels, to the size you set at 300 DPI, and writes 300 DPI into the file so it prints at that size. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
