Why this size

Why forms reject photos that are too small

Exam and job portals set a range, not just a maximum: an RRB signature, for example, must be at least 30 KB. A photo under the minimum is treated as low quality and rejected, even when it looks fine, because the portal only checks the number of kilobytes.

This tool saves your photo again at a higher JPG quality, which makes the file larger. If that is still not enough, it adds a small block of empty data inside the file. The picture, its width and its height do not change, so the portal sees the size it wants and the photo looks exactly the same.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Aim for the middle of the range

If a form allows 20 to 50 KB, a 25 or 30 KB file is safer than one right at 20 KB. Type that number as your target.

Check the pixel size too

Some forms also fix the width and height, such as 200 x 230 px. Resize first, then increase the KB here.

Already too big?

If your photo is over the maximum, you need the opposite: compress it instead.

FAQ

Increase Image Size in KB: questions

Add the photo, type 20 as the target and download. The new file is just over 20 KB and keeps the same width and height.

The picture looks the same or slightly better. The tool first saves it at a higher JPG quality; any padding it adds is empty data that you cannot see.

No. The pixel size stays exactly as it was, so a form that checks both the dimensions and the KB still accepts it.

The file is under the minimum number of KB the form allows. Phones and messaging apps often compress photos heavily, so a clear picture can still be only a few KB.

Nothing is changed. If the form has a maximum you are over, use the image compressor to bring it down instead.

How we checked this page

We test the tool with sample photos before it goes live and check that the sizes on this page match what it produces. Rules and platforms change, so if something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

How the tool works

The tool saves the photo again at a higher JPG quality, which makes the file larger without changing its pixels. If that is not enough, it adds an empty comment block inside the JPG until the size is reached. The picture, its width and its height stay the same. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
