How to

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 1.

Drop your PNG files. You can add many at once.

  2. 2.

Convert. Transparent areas become white, since JPG has no transparency.

  3. 3.

Download. Save each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.

Why this size

What changes when PNG becomes JPG

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so photos saved as PNG are often five to ten times larger than they need to be. JPG keeps a photo looking the same at a fraction of the size, which is why forms, email and most websites prefer it.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Text and thin lines can soften very slightly, so keep logos and screenshots as PNG unless a form asks for JPG. If the form also sets a size, type it in the KB limit and the photo is converted and compressed in one step.

Tips

Tips that make a difference

Convert to JPG when

A form only accepts JPG, a photo is too large to email, or a site loads slowly.

Keep PNG when

The image has a transparent background or sharp text, like a logo or a screenshot.

Convert a whole folder

Drop all your PNG files at once. Each one becomes a JPG with the same name, and you can download them together as a ZIP.

Avoid

Common problems and fixes

  • The background turned whiteJPG cannot store transparency. If you need it, keep the PNG or convert it to WebP, which keeps transparent areas.
  • A logo or text looks slightly fuzzyJPG blurs sharp edges a little. Keep logos and screenshots as PNG unless a form needs JPG.
  • The JPG is still over the form's limitType the limit in the KB box before converting. The JPG then lands just under it.

FAQ

PNG to JPG: questions

How do I change PNG to JPG format?
Add your PNG files and download. The output is already JPG; each file keeps its width and height. If a form wants the .jpeg ending, use Convert to JPEG.
Can I convert PNG to JPG under 100 KB?
Yes. Type 100 in the size limit before you convert. The JPG lands just under 100 KB. For a photo that is already a JPG, use compress to 100 KB.
What happens to a transparent background?
It becomes white, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Is there a file limit?
Up to 25 MB per image. Add up to 5 files at once, or 50 with a free account.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser, so your images never leave your device.

How we checked this page

Checked by the SizePort team on .

We test the tool with sample photos before it goes live and check that the sizes on this page match what it produces. Rules and platforms change, so if something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

How the tool works

The image is decoded in your browser and saved again in the new format at a high quality setting. PNG and WebP keep transparent areas; JPG and GIF get a white background. A JPEG converted to JPG without a size limit keeps every byte and only changes the file name. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
