Why this size
Turning a GIF into a JPG
GIF files are common for icons, memes and old web graphics, but most upload forms and photo apps want JPG. Converting gives you a standard JPG with the same width and height.
A GIF can hold only 256 colors, so converting does not add color detail that was never there. Animated GIFs become a single still image: the first frame.

How the tool works
The image is decoded in your browser and saved again in the new format at a high quality setting. PNG and WebP keep transparent areas; JPG and GIF get a white background. A JPEG converted to JPG without a size limit keeps every byte and only changes the file name. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
