Why this size
600 DPI for signatures and fine detail
UTIITSL asks for the PAN signature at 600 DPI, and 600 DPI is the usual setting for signatures, drawings and documents with small print, where every line matters.
The label tells a printer to fit 600 pixels into each inch, so the same image prints at half the size it would at 300 DPI. Make sure the image has enough pixels for the print size you want: an A4 page at 600 DPI is 4961 x 7016 pixels.
| DPI | Prints at | In cm |
|---|---|---|
| 72 DPI | 16.7 x 25.0 in | 42.3 x 63.5 cm |
| 150 DPI | 8.0 x 12.0 in | 20.3 x 30.5 cm |
| 200 DPI | 6.0 x 9.0 in | 15.2 x 22.9 cm |
| 300 DPI | 4.0 x 6.0 in | 10.2 x 15.2 cm |
| 600 DPI | 2.0 x 3.0 in | 5.1 x 7.6 cm |

Common problems and fixes
- The signature prints tinyAt 600 DPI each inch needs 600 pixels, so a 400 pixel wide signature prints about two thirds of an inch wide. Portals read the DPI; the print size rarely matters.
- The UTIITSL portal still rejects the signatureIt must also be 400 x 200 pixels, black and white and under 60 KB. Use the PAN photo and signature tool, which sets everything at once.
FAQ
600 DPI: questions
- How do I change an image to 600 DPI?
- Add the image and download. 600 DPI is already set and the pixels stay the same.
- Which forms ask for 600 DPI?
- UTIITSL asks for the PAN signature as 400 x 200 pixels at 600 DPI. Some scanning and archive services also want 600 DPI.
- Is 600 DPI better than 300 DPI?
- Only if the image has the pixels for it. The label alone adds no detail; it makes the same pixels print at half the size.
- Does it change the image itself?
- No. JPG and PNG files keep their pixels exactly. Only the DPI value in the file changes.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser.

How we checked this page
Checked by the SizePort team on .
We compare every size and rule on this page with the official sources below, and test the tool with sample photos before it goes live. Rules and platforms change, so if something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
How the tool works
The tool changes only the DPI value stored in the file header. The pixels, the colors and the image data stay exactly as they were, so nothing is re-compressed. Everything happens in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
